How is an even week counted?

Parity follows from the week number as defined by the ISO 8601 standard: a number divisible by two makes an even week, otherwise it is odd. The week runs Monday to Sunday.

Two subtleties deserve attention when organising shared custody. First, a week belongs to the year of its Thursday: 31 December therefore regularly lands in week 1 of the following year. Second, so-called long years have 53 weeks, and since week 53 is odd just like the week 1 that follows it, two odd weeks run back to back.
